The pain in her shoulder had now receded down to a dull ache. She shrugged, “I am fine, do not worry.” Jade watched the happy, innocent children with a soft gaze. They were so joyful and sweet. A smile touched her features when Nikolai payed for their treats. When he came back to her she continued on, “That was sweet. So now you are a saint and a soldier? Is there anything else I must know? Are you a god as well?” She smiled teasingly, casting a glance around the market. The young women decided that she must come here more often. Everyone seemed so happy and joyful, buzzing with excitement of sales and purchases. For one crazy second, Jade wondered what Ohanzee might be like in Murate, land of the slaves. She shivered at the thought that it must be horrible beyond compare, probably the exact opposite of what this town was. Her eyes flicked toward Nikolai as he bought the roses for her, and she rolled her eyes when he spoke, her lips curling into a half smile and a soft laugh came from her mouth. She took the roses in her hand and brought them up to her nose. She inhaled deeply, the sweet smell of roses plunging into her system. “You had better be sorry, to wrongly blame a women.” She tsked her tongue and continued walking, her teasing tone fading. “But I should be the one that is apologizing, really. I give you my word, I will never 'leave you hanging' again.” She nodded her head as if agreeing with herself.
The expression on her face became thoughtful and dream-like as she, to, glances skyward. Today was the perfect day, considering it was not nearly to hot and not to cold, either. She opened her mouth to speak, but it closed just as quick as it had opened. She pondered his statement, not finding anything to say. Jade was grateful when he spoke again, continuing on her path through the market with him. “No, I will stay.” She promised, staring into his amber eyes. She was not falling in love with him quite yet but did indeed like this potential friendship. His company was nice and she trusted he thought the same. She broke from his gaze and walked on, her eyes falling to the blooming white roses in her hand. They were gorgeous, no doubt about it. A smile touched her lips and she let her hand once again drop to her side, allowing him room to reply.
