It was suppose to be a day of joy......
...it was a day of betrayal...
The wedding day of the crown prince Kasheem of Kai to his childhood sweetheart, the Lady Jahanarwa. Several years ago the young prince had been the one to find the Lady Jahanarwa badly injured from a fire that had killed her parents. Since then they had been inseparable and now Prince Kasheem was making Jahanarwa the future queen of Kai. The island, secluded from the main land, was a place far from Murate's dark shadow. Or so they had thought. The wedding was lavish and beautiful; Kasheem and his bride were well loved by their people. But the happy couple was never meant to become one.
The jealous Rashok, younger brother of Kasheem, had attempted to woo Jahanarwa and had even attempted to have his brother secretly killed but he had failed in all attempts. The young prince was so desperate for his desired bride that he had quietly gone to Murate, that black spot on the earth, and spoken to King Magrej, for assistance. Unknown to the young prince, Jahanarwa had long been an interest to Magrej but for very different reasons. The lady was the guardian to a great power that was contained within the jewel that was always about her person. The sky blue gem was said to have fallen from the heavens as reward to a great hero. The hero’s family had been the keepers of this power for many generations. Its powers were fabled to raise or destroy entire kingdoms. Magrej had been searching for this power and had almost gotten it within his grasp except that Jahanarwa had escaped with it while her parents had sacrificed themselves for both their daughter’s safety and the jewel in hopes that the power would remain far from Magrej. Jahanarwa kept her power a secret from all but the King, who took her in as his own, and also her fiancée Kasheem. Rashok had no idea what he was doing as he agreed to Magrej’s deal. Magrej would send his army to Kai and Jahanarwa would be Rashok’s but in return, Magrej would get the jewel. Rashok was pleased, thinking he had outwitted Magrej. The King of Murate would have his pitiful jewel but Rashok would have a kingdom and his chosen bride. But Murate's shadow was reaching out to cover Kai.
So it happened. Just before the vows were said, Muratian warriors burst in the doors and attacked. But something went terribly wrong. Magrej had betrayed the betrayer. The sky gem could never be separated fully from the guardian unless the guardian said so. If separated, guardian and jewel would quickly weaken and both would fade into nothing. In the end, the bride was captured and dragged away while the Kai warriors fought the Muratians. They never had a chance. Once Jahanarwa was secure within Magrej’s grasp he used his magic to sink the entire island. Many perished, including his Muratian soldiers, but not all. A remnant of the people of Kai made it to the mainland but, they seemed to fade into the rest of the bustling humanity.
Jahanarwa was taken deep into the dungeons of Murate castle and little is known about her tortures there. Some stories say that she died from the excruciating experiences but most tales say she escaped. In any case, the young woman was not heard of again. But time marches on. Murate had, since Magrej had become king, swallowed many smaller kingdoms and only one kingdom now stood against Magrej and the foreign lands across the Dirya. Ellsinora, a land completely polar opposite of Murate, was at war to keep not only themselves safe but the world safe. But something seemingly small started in the Orestes Mountains that are between Murate and Ellsinora, The Grellon. Rumors of a new and large gang of outlaw thieves started trickling through which was lead by a daring young female. These outlaws call themselves "The Grellon." Though many tales are of the audacities these vagabonds have committed, there are also a few tales of how they have started to sneak refugees out of Murate.
But there are still many questions to be answered. Is Jahanarwa dead? If she is, where is the skye gem? Murate is powerful, will Magrej’s shadow fall across the entire world?
It is all betrayers and the betrayed, which are you?
