Tall and lean, Orion lives up to his name. Standing around 5' 11", his slender form is all hardened muscle. Usually cat-like in his movements, he can be very stealthy, making hunting an easy task, whether he's hunting food or enemies. A mix of orange, red, and brown hair falls down around his face, the jagged ends hanging just below his chin. His eyes, icy chips of the sky before a storm, contrast nicely with his fiery hair and naturally pale skin. A skilled fighter and trained hunter, Orion can be easily flung into battle or chosen for an assassin's mission. Quick and light on his feet, he uses speed and agility rather than brute strength in battle.
Wandering around in a tight-fitting tunic paired with fairly loose dark trousers, Orion usually covers up with a black hooded cloak. Though he is trained in a variety of weapons, Orion's weapon of choice is his broadsword. Orion never, ever goes anywhere without his sword, his companion, his partner-in-crime. Forged with tough, durable steel, by expert hands, Aithne (Celtic for "little fire") is a thing of beauty. Silver blade engraved with dancing flames, red handle, ruby-encrusted cross-guard, and a large ruby adorning the pommel, Aithne is truly a work of art. When the sun hits the pommel just right, the ruby glows with all the dancing light and life of a fire. The sheath was created to match the blade, red-dyed steel with tiny rubies running down the center on both sides. Occasionally Orion can be seen with a bow in hand and a quiver of arrows on his back, though he mainly uses it to hunt.
Personality ::
Like the fire, Orion's spirit is wild and free. Bound by no laws and no rules, he usually does as he pleases. Running around the streets of Ohanzee, Orion acts much the same way he did when he was younger. Taunting and teasing Magrej's soldiers, running around down back alleys or on rooftops, practicing his fighting skills, flirting a little. The only difference is that now, he collects followers and leads them outside the city where other Grellon members can lead them to freedom. When among the Grellon, however, he contains himself to abide (mostly) by their rules.
Orion's loyalty and trust are hard to earn, but it is the greatest gift that he can bestow. Once he finds someone worthy of his loyalty, he will do anything in his power to protect that someone. His devotion is great, almost to a fault. Once his trust is broken, however, it is destroyed forever, and it is nearly impossible to gain it back.
With a fierce and fiery temper that tends to flare up easily, he can sometimes become reckless in battle. His ferocity and determination help him win many of the battles his short temper can start. His swift, cunning mind makes him a great strategist, and quick thinking is what keeps him and others in his protection alive in battle and on the streets of Ohanzee.
A rebel through and through, Orion loves to run and enjoys the thrill of the hunt. Knowing that he, the prey, can outwit and outrun those hunting him gives him a thrill he cannot get enough of. Running from Magrej's soldiers is one of his favorite pastimes, and close calls are even more fun to him. After narrowly escaping capture, he becomes giddy with laughter. It is one of the few ways he finds laughter, and he cherishes every moment of it.
History ::
Born the illegitimate son of a soldier of Magrej and a servant girl, Orion has lived a harsh life. Not long after he was born, his mother fled to the swamp, taking her son with her. The pair struggled to survive in the harsh environment, but they managed. Orion soon learned that in order to survive, he would have to learn to teach himself how to do things. At a young age Orion was learning the ways of a hunter. He learned by watching other predators and trying to imitate what they did. He and his mother lived relatively well, considering the situation they where in.
One day, when Orion was 13, a group of Magrej's soldiers charged through their small campsite. Orion was out hunting, and when he heard the soldiers, he climbed a tree to stay out of harm's way. He watched helplessly as the soldiers raped and killed his mother before setting fire to everything they had. Once the soldiers left and the fire died, Orion climbed down from his perch and moved toward the charred remains of his mother. Silently, he wept.
After a short time, Orion snapped back into focus. He searched the ruins of the camp and found a small silver dagger, his mother's dagger. It was the only salvageable thing he found, and he took it with him as he turned his back on the campsite and left.
Orion returned to the city of his birth, Ohanzee. He lived as a street rat, stealing just enough food and water for him to survive. Magrej's soldiers were always after him, trying to press him into service. Running from them, Orion learned how to think quickly and move fast in tight situations. He learned how to climb buildings and could travel from one end of the city to the other without ever setting foot on the ground. He learned the city extremely well, and knows every side route and back alley and the quickest way to get anywhere.
Shortly after Orion turned 20 years old, the Grellon found him and recruited him. He left with them and journeyed to the mountains. When they reached the mountains, the Grellon wasted no time in training him to be a warrior, an assassin. Hand-to-hand combat was his forte, and though he wasn't extremely strong, he was swift and cunning. A fast thinking, he easily impressed the Grellon with his fighting techniques. One day, a couple of high-ranking Grellon took him to a blacksmith in the mountains, claiming that they had a surprise for him. The blacksmith took one look at Orion and immediately went to work. Orion, confused, wondered what was going on. The Grellon answered none of his questions, though.
After making camp near the blacksmith's home for two days, the Grellon and Orion returned to the smith's forge. The blacksmith handed Orion something wrapped in a soft cloth, and motioned for Orion to open it. As he unwrapped the bundle, his jaw dropped. In his hands lay a beautifully crafted sword. The red, ruby-encrusted sheath and cross-guard, the red handle, and the giant ruby perched in the pommel took his breath away. When he drew the sword from its sheath, he saw the true beauty of the sword. The silver handle was engraved with images of dancing flames. Orion stepped outside with his sword to practice with it.
The sword fit him perfectly; it was an extension of his arm. Perfectly balanced, not too heavy, not too light. Quickly, the sword and he became one. Almost in tears, Orion sheathed the sword, buckled the sheath to his belt, and walked back inside. He thanked the blacksmith and the Grellon. The blacksmith told him that it was customary to name your sword, and Orion reverently drew his sword, studying it. Suddenly, he held the sword high and shouted, "Aithne!" As he shouted, the sun appeared through the clouds and shone directly into the pommel ruby, setting the jewel ablaze in a fiery light. Mesmerized, the four men stared at the sword. Orion lowered then sheathed his sword, leaving his hand to rest on the hilt.
Orion quickly moved up the ranks of the Grellon due to his skill and quick thinking in battle, as well as his stealth and knowledge of the city of Ohanzee. He is a high-ranking member of the Grellon, an elite fighter, and one of the best at rescuing citizens of Murate.
