It was early morning as Marlena began to stir about her small home her cat Minka mewing at her heels. Lena was dressed in a simple cotton dress that had once been a bright red but had long since faded to pink. It only had two layers two it and had two deep pockets sewn into it as well. This was her normal attire as well as what she would wear when working at the Blue Boar but today was her only day of the week she was off and she intended to go out and enjoy the town.
Marlena walked to her door and stepped out as the new days rays washed over her and she smiled happily. Minka mewed again and Lena stooped to pick her up before closing the door and stepping away from the house. This town had always been her home, it was a place of great happiness and cheer which always added to Marlena's good moods. The young woman never had a foul day as she liked to look upon things as the glass is always half full. The white cat with it's brown face purred up at her as they walked through the town and as Lena greeted various familiar faces.
The town was just missing one face in Lena's mind, the face of her brother. But she refused to think of him now what with the beautiful day and it being her day off, she was determined to enjoy it. Finally Lena came to a little clothing shop and she let Minka down outside as she went in. It was time she got a new skirt though it would have to be cheap, she might save all her earnings but she still sometimes had problems keeping up enough to buy food and have extra for any emergencies.

Jade didn't have a home. She slept in the woods with her little knapsack of belongings, and earned money for food doing odd little jobs around town. She had yet to get a job. Although, not that she minded much, not having a home that is. She liked to be alone. At least the squirrels and ants and owls didn't mind a one armed freak. But her clothes were worn down, and the only item that was not torn or patched in one way or another was her cloak, which she took very good care of. She was wary of wearing dresses or skirts, because her cloak at least concealed her missing limb, while dresses simply highlighted it. But, it was time to stop being so self cautious about the whole ordeal. And she had a little extra money on her, so why not buy something nice?
The young women's eyes were set on the dress boutique, ignoring the stares of people as she passed. Kiyer was so big, and she was seen so little, Jade was almost a stranger. Almost. The accepting people who didn't think she had some sort of a wacko disese that she worked for knew her well. She opened the door and stepped inside, scanning the fabrics and material. Her eyes fell onto a simple dark purple cotton dress, long sleeved, circle neckline falling just above the chest of a women, and flowing nicely out from the waist. She looked to the women running the store, "How much?" She asked, picking it up. The women stared at her, and smiled a giant, phoney grin. "Let us just assume you couldn't afford it, dear." She said, "And considering the circumstances, I don't think that style would suit you, have you considered a personal tailor?"
Jades eyes flashed with anger, but she just grinned back at the women, the phoney smile playing up her features. "Well," She said, picked up the dress and pulling out a little pouch with money in it, "Have you considered fixing those teeth? It must be horrible to have to live with that. How do you ever survive?" She put her hand over her heart and paused dramatically, then frowned. "I'll take it." She dumped a small pile of gold onto the table and stuffed the dress into her knapsack, with difficulty. The lady rolled her eyes and counted the money, frowning. "Have a nice day." Jade turned around, nearly crashing into a girl in a pink cotton dress. "Sorry."
